Feeling Good About What You Share With the World

Have you ever felt like the gift that your possessed would only be valid if a certain number of people liked it? In other words, is what you give to the world important if enough people agree with you?
I believe this is the struggle that many of us artists face. We want to put out a quality product that reflects who we are. We are expressing. We are allowing the world into our inner world, which can be a very scary proposition.

This struggle doesn't just go for writers and musicians. It goes for anyone who is creating something new. It is the risk taking that creates the opportunity to be concerned how other people are thinking about us.

Let's be real here. I don't believe there is an artist out there that doesn't want to be seen. There is a reason why we pay so close attention to details. It's also why we go about the work of marketing our product. We want to be seen. We believe that we have something valuable that the world should see. To deny this truth is to create stress for ourselves.

We want to present our work for a couple of reasons. When we create something, and somebody connects with it, we have given them a great gift. Creative work connects people. It makes them feel alive. When you and I give something, we have essentially invited them into our world. They become a part of the creative process. I always feel honored when someone presents their creativity to me. It is the same for you. Your work is an honor for me to witness.

The task then becomes feeling good about our work regardless of how people react to it. Here are 5 things that could help you feel better about your talents:

1. Embrace your uniqueness as being a positive thing. The fact that you are different is a good thing. It is coming to terms with the truth that your talent has a special place in this world.

2. Go to people that care about you, and ask them to support you. The truth is that we all need some support.

3. Realize that everyone does not have to agree with you. Everyone is in a different place in life. They are going to have a different reaction to your work. The reaction is not a comment about you. It is a comment about their life experience. They are not wrong. And, you are not wrong. It's simply about having different life experiences.

4. Affirm yourself every day. Fake it sometimes if you need to. Don't believe the lie that you are not worthy. Affirm the truth that you have a special talent.

5. Spend time every day supporting your gift. Put time into it. Nurture it. Give it the energy it deserves. The more time you spend on it, the more you will see it flourish.

My hope for you is that you can see how important your artistry is to the world. You put a lot of time and effort into what you do. Whatever you do is good enough. Attention from others is a beautiful thing. Giving attention to you and affirming yourself is truly magnificent! Go for it! You deserve to feel good about yourself.
